I had an interesting call with a ‘frustrated founder’ that I advise yesterday. I’m probably one of the least patient people I know, but they were ready to throw in the towel and go do something totally different and change the entire direction of their business. This is what I told them.

As a founder of a new business, it’s easy to get caught up in the latest trends and side projects. However, it’s important to remember that your original objectives and goals should always remain at the forefront of your mind. Don’t be too quick to dismiss them as not working. Instead, give them the time and attention they deserve.

While pivoting can sometimes be necessary, constantly jumping from one thing to the next can lead to a lack of focus and ultimately, failure. Remember, your original ideas were what inspired you to start your business in the first place. Don’t let the allure of what’s fashionable distract you from achieving your goals.

At the end of the day, it’s important to keep in mind that starting a business is a marathon, not a sprint. Stay focused on your objectives and don’t be afraid to pivot when necessary. But always give your original ideas the time and attention they deserve. That’s the key to building a successful business.

By the end of the call, they were back to their normal, calm resourceful self. Their original idea is good and in truth they need to be in survival mode until the world catches up with what they are building.

For them it’s about marketing well and explaining a brand-new service. It takes time to become the knowledge leader and for others to see your vision.

Never give up on good ideas until it’s clear they have been given the time they need!

Patience is a virtue
