I just read a great piece on LinkedIn by Roei Samuel. It’s about how you raise funds as a first time founder with no real track record. You can read it here.
It made me think though. Apart from raising funds you want to also start to create an image that makes your business look bigger than it is at this stage. You want to “punch above your weight” to attract leads and enquiries as well.
Listed below are a few of the things I do when both starting a new business and advising others:
First, having a professional website is crucial. A well-designed website can give the impression of a larger business, as it shows that your company is dedicated to its online presence. Additionally, having a professional email address, such as info@yourcompany.com, will help give the impression of a bigger business.
Another strategy is to use virtual office services. A well-managed virtual office can provide a prestigious business address and telephone number, without the cost of a physical office. This can be especially useful for businesses that operate primarily online or that have a small team that works remotely. Shop around and secure references before you commit.
Networking is an essential part of building a successful business. Attend networking events and join professional organizations to meet other business owners and industry experts. It can be a great way to make connections, learn from others, and build a reputation as a serious player in your industry. Maybe even run some low-key events that will add value to potential clients, don’t talk about yourself, talk about your industry.
In addition to networking, it is important to establish a strong online presence. Utilize social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook to connect with potential customers and partners. Aim to become a recognised “knowledge leader”, engage with your audience, and build relationships with influencers, bloggers and those people who run podcasts in your industry.
Finally, and perhaps most importantly it is important to have a strong branding strategy. A well-defined brand will make your business stand out in a crowded marketplace and establish trust with customers. Develop a consistent message and aesthetic across all your marketing materials, from your website to your business cards.
